We currently generate approximately 2.5% of our electricity from our solar panels, with projects under way to install more.
Essex Food is the primary food supplier across the University’s Colchester Campus. They are committed to helping protect the planet to ensure a sustainable future, working to eradicate the use of plastic, reducing food waste and food miles, using local suppliers and efficient use of resources.
We have water fountains in key locations to make it easier for visitors to fill up their own water bottles.
Our Essex Business School in Colchester is the UK’s first zero-carbon business school building. The design of the building reduces emissions as a result of solar panels and making use of natural light and heat circulation. The central courtyard is open to the sky and forms a water garden, collecting roof surface rainwater, which is in turn used to irrigate the winter garden planting. The building has been orientated to make maximum benefit of solar energy, both through passive heat gains and PV energy. The 500sqm solar array offsets 47.9 tonnes of CO2 annually.
All our venues feature easy to find recycle bins.
We only use ethically sourced coffee.
Coffee grounds from our events are recycled into compost.
We use rapeseed oil for our frying which is then recycled into bio fuel.
We offer fully vegetarian and vegan event menu options.
